Gazette Article on Art Show Opening This Weekend

I am proud on so many levels: First, my only image in the summer show this year was chosen by the Gazette as the lead photo for the lead story on the cover of their A&E section this week!

The article gives great press to the Frederick Camera Clique (of which, I am the outgoing president.) I appreciated their quotes from me and Valentin Casarsa and coverage of the June Workshops. And, the icing on the cake is that the photo is of my little girl, one of my favorite pictures of her of all time!

At left, is a photo showing the cover. The complete article is available at the Gazette online. Congratulations to two other Camera Clique members who had photos included with the article (which was continued on page B-2) — June Jarkey and Bob Scheer.

The Frederick Camera Clique’s 24th Annual Juried Exhibition opens Saturday July 10 at 5pm. It is in the Mary Condon Hodgeson Gallery at Frederick Community College. The show is free and open to the public. And photographers and art aficionados should definitely pop in, there are some amazing photos on display this year!

June 2010 Workshops with Valentin Casarsa – A HUGE SUCCESS!

Well, words cannot capture all the good times, great experiences, and amazing photos that came out of this international event.  :)

Valentin Casarsa was an amazing teacher and all around great person to hang out with during his, albiet too short, visit to Frederick, MD. Still, in that short span of about 5 days, we managed to have a great club meeting with Valentin presenting. Several iStock’ers from the DMV area turned out too. Valentin judged our Summer Show (opening July 10 at the Mary Condon Hodgeson Gallery at FCC.) And… best of all, we held two great days of workshops teaching lighting, particularly lifestyle and studio applications, and edgy art direction.

Since words just don’t do it all justice, here’s a slideshow made using photos from everyone at the workshops. Enjoy!

In the home stretch for June 2010 Workshops

I have been in a furious planning and prep mode lately for the upcoming June 2010 workshops. This year B Scott Photography will again host 2 days of teaching workshops in conjunction with the Frederick Camera Clique. Following on the success of the workshops last year, the camera club gained corporate sponsorship this year! With special thanks to iStockphoto.com, we are able to bring an international phenom to town for an exciting learning event.

I sent this press release to local papers today —

My Favorite Bride of All? :)

Okay, it hardly seems fair to single out one couple and play favorites. I’m grateful to all my clients and I have soooo much fun working with everyone!!

Still… there is one who I owe a  huge “Thank You” to, and that is Kate of Kate & Chris.

Kate has been a prolific blogger at Weddingbee.com and has really helped my word of mouth advertising. Mrs. Pencil’s blog is simply amazing, I mean it, just give it a read! And read some more… it’s nearing novel length as I type this :) And I, of course, like that it showcases so much of my work and my partner’s work. Thanks again Kate and Chris!

The Frederick Classic — That’s a Wrap!

What fun and what talent! I had the honor of photographing close to 200 gymnasts this past weekend at the annual Frederick Classic. The athletes ranged in skill from Level 1 all the way through Level 10, and at every level they stunned with their grace, power, and spirit.

I was more than a bit overwhelmed, handling over 6000 images from 14 hours of shooting, but the end results are worth every minute!

Photos from this event are available for purchase online. E-mail or leave a comment if you need a link to the gallery.

December 20th – A Beautiful Wedding with Historic Snow

Beautiful AND thrilling! (Though a bit of a nail biter for Bride and Groom Jen and Eric as they watched the weather forecast days before their wedding.) Jen and Eric were married on December 20, 2009 at Westminster Hall in Baltimore. Getting to their wedding was surprisingly easy following the 24″ historic snowfall the day and evening before. 4WD was helpful in in a few spots.

The snow made a beautiful backdrop for quite a few of their pictures. Eric is a bit of a weather buff (to put it mildly) and I think the snow put a cherry on top of a perfect day. The Best Man even enjoyed a few weather bug cracks at the Groom

Jen and Eric were great fun to work with, they also told me upfront they wanted lots of photos of the many children at their wedding. This 9 minute slideshow captures many details of their day, including a heaping helping of adorable kids.

I’d personally like to thank my assistant for building a mini snowman out of the fresh fallen snow and completing him with garnishes from the buffet to make him a perfect prop for holding wedding rings in a couple photos.

Jen and Eric said this slideshow of their wedding and reception “totally exceeded expectations!!” and they ordered a high-resolution version on DVD. They also encouraged me to share it with potential clients.

Thank you Jen and Eric for the opportunity to photograph your wedding. It was a beautiful day! And I wish you happiness and good fortune in your years ahead.

4 Minute Video of May 15th Workshops

May is now a few months in the past, but I presented a slideshow to the Frederick Camera Clique last night after pulling out over 100 of the best photos taken by 20 students at the May 15th workshops and so the topic is once again fresh at hand.

In May, the Frederick Camera Clique (of which I am currently president) sponsored a combined teaching/speaking event by bringing well known stock photographer Lauren Rinder in from LA to address our group. I hosted 2 days of workshops at my new studio, and everyone had a blast (me included!) We had 5 models, 2 make up artists, instructors, and 10 students each day.

Before last night, students hadn’t seen each others pictures and they were really amazed by what everyone came away with from the workshops. Response at the workshops was great and again extremely positive last night. We’ll do it again in 2010. Thanks to everyone who attended, and especially to the models who where great sports!

Diamond at iStock!

Yesterday, Oct 14th, marked my 25,000th sale at iStockphoto and thus, my induction into the Diamond level of contributors. This is a huge milestone, being among the top 2% at the biggest name in microstock photography. Here’s hoping for another great year!

iStock’s Photographer of the Week – August 10, 2009!

Can it be true?! Today, when logging in to iStock to see what’s selling, I had a message in my inbox telling me I was featured on iStockphoto’s front page as “Photographer of the Week!” This is quite an honor, being selected out of 60,000 contributors, and having seen the work of past selected photographers.

Photographer of the Week. Lower right corner, bmcent1, that's me :)

iStockphoto is one of the major stock photography outlets I regularly supply material to. They pioneered “microstock” and have continued to innovate the way stock imagery is produced and consumed. They’re part of the Getty Images family, more recently, a big part.

Here is a link to my stock photography portfolio at iStock. Take a look! (You may even see some familiar faces  :-)

Thank You iStock! And my continued appreciation to designers, and stock image buyers of every stripe and feather who continue to make this a fun and rewarding aspect of my photography career.
